Born to Fight: Overcoming the Odds, One Battle at a Time

A Fight from the Start

I wasn’t supposed to make it.

In 1975, I was born with gastroschisis—a rare and life-threatening birth defect where my intestines developed outside my body. I spent two months in an incubator, fighting just to survive. Doctors weren’t sure if I’d live.

But I did.

And since then, I’ve been fighting—against injuries, against autoimmune disease, against setbacks that should’ve ended me. But I refuse to stay down.

The Lifelong Battle: Gastroschisis, Autoimmune Disease & Internal Damage

“Pain and bleeding was the norm”

Gastroschisis left me with severe internal scarring, digestive challenges, and a lifetime susceptibility to hernias. But that wasn’t all.

Years later, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a brutal autoimmune disease that caused constant pain, digestive dysfunction, and severe inflammation.

Doctors told me it was chronic and irreversible. That I would have to manage it for life with medications and restrictions. That my body would always be working against me.

They were wrong.

Through nutrition, strength training, and lifestyle changes, I reversed my autoimmune disease. I took control of my health and proved that healing is possible.

And I’m not the only one.

Autoimmune disease is on the rise. More people than ever are struggling with chronic inflammation, gut issues, and a body that feels like it’s betraying them. But I’m here to tell you:

You are not stuck. Your body is not broken. You can heal.

Strength or Surgery—A Choice I Had to Make

Pondering what to do- remove my colon, or find another way…

Even after beating ulcerative colitis, my body still carried the scars of my past.

Over the last 15 years, I’ve had three hernias—two while working as a firefighter/paramedic. The worst?

Snowmageddon: The Hernia That Didn’t Stop Me

A historic blizzard shut down the region. Roads were buried. But first responders don’t get snow days.

I spent eight hours shoveling snow just to get my car out. At some point, I felt it—another hernia. I knew exactly what had happened, but calling out wasn’t an option.

So, I went in. I worked two back-to-back 24-hour shifts, helping the National Guard respond to emergencies, all while a protruding hernia pushed through my abdominal wall. I told no one. I just kept going.

That moment changed everything.

I made a decision: I refuse to rely on surgery to keep me functioning. I would make my body so strong that it wouldn’t need fixing.

Pain, Injury & the Fight to Rebuild

Hernias aren’t the only thing I’ve had to come back from.

🔹 I completely tore my left knee, destroying all ligaments and the meniscus—and I rebuilt it.

🔹 I was attacked by a group of men who didn’t like how I looked. They shattered my arm. Now, I have a metal plate and screws holding it together. I came back from that, too.

Every time my body was broken, I had two choices: accept it, or rebuild it stronger. I chose strength—every time.

The Truth About Health: It’s Not About Perfection

Let’s be real—I’m not perfect.

✔ Sometimes, I drink too much.

✔ Sometimes, I stay up too late.

✔ Sometimes, I eat things I shouldn’t.

But the difference? I always come back.

Health isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being consistent. If 80-90% of the time you’re doing what you need to do, that other 10-20% is for living—weddings, vacations, happy hours, nights out with friends.

The key is having a foundation to return to. A system. A set of habits that keep you on track, no matter how far you stray.

Healing Through Strength, Nutrition & Lifestyle

I chose to FIGHT

When I overcame my autoimmune disease, it wasn’t by accident. I followed a strategy—one I now help others apply in their own lives:

✔ Nutrition Coaching & Accountability – Healing starts with food. I teach people how to fuel their bodies for recovery, energy, and strength.

✔ Sleep Coaching – Sleep controls everything—recovery, hormone balance, immune function. If you’re not sleeping well, you’re not healing well.

✔ Lifestyle Coaching – Stress, environment, and movement patterns matter just as much as diet and training.

✔ Gymnastic Strength Training (GST) – I specialize in building pain-free strength and mobility for long-term health.

If you’re struggling with chronic pain, autoimmune disease, or recurring injuries, you don’t have to accept it. Your body is capable of more than you’ve been told.

But Here’s the Thing… I’m Not for Everyone.

Shift Work, PGFD

I have very high standards and expectations for those I work with. Why? The stakes are HIGH.

I refuse to lower them. Because standards matter. Accountability matters.

This is NOT for people who:

❌ Just want to do things their way (even though their way isn’t working)

❌ Want a magic fix without putting in the work

❌ Make excuses instead of commitments

This is for people who:

✅ Are sick of their own BS and ready to commit

✅ Want someone who actually cares enough to push them

✅ Are ready to trust the process—because everything I ask you to do is for your own good

Work-Life Balance? That’s a Myth.

People who talk about work-life balance are the ones who hate their jobs.

I don’t. I work 24/7 because it’s worth it.

I wake up every day knowing my work matters. That someone out there—maybe you—needs this message. Needs help. Needs proof that it’s possible to rebuild, to heal, to get stronger.

I am that proof.

🚨 Your body is NOT broken. You are NOT stuck. But you do have to take action.
